Isabelle Vandenabeele

The Belgian illustrator Isabelle Vandenabeele studied Graphic Design at the Saint-Lucas Institute in Ghent, and embarked on her career in 1998. Her stark style frequently recalls the large areas of colour and lines of her fellow citizens Gerda Dendooven and Goele Dewanckel. Her work in the book Child merited a Plume Book, and with Red Riding Hood she was awarded the Silver Brush and Plantin Moretus Prize in 2004. More recent work portrays a strong preference for lithography, engraving and woodcut. It was with this last technique that she won the 4th edition of Ilustrarte – International Biennial of Illustration for Children, in 2009, with the illustrations of the book Prólogo de Um Amor Partido (Prologue of a Departed Love), a short story based on a painting by the Belgian artist Edgar Tutgat.
