Susanne Janssen was born in Aachen, Germany, in 1965, and studied graphic design at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf, becoming a professional in book illustration. Janssen was a student of the illustrator and writer Wolf Erlbruch, and developed a style that evokes the infant universe through an adult stroke, being therefore very versatile. Her first book, Die Wette, wer zuerst wütend wird, from a story by Italo Calvino, was published in 1994 by the Hanser publishing house and was considered one of the best German books of the year by the jury of the Buchkunst Foundation, in addition to having won the Gold Apple at the Bratislava Biennial. She has won many distinctions for her work, including the Ilustrarte Grand Prize in 2007. She currently lives and works in Frankreich, Alsace, Germany.
