Mikaela Dörfel was born in Finland in 1962. She studied Industrial Design at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. Between 1988 and 1996 she was Design Manager at Rosenthal AG. 1997 she founded her own studio, Dörfel-Design, nearby Hamburg. There she develops projects for some of the leading companies in the field of tableware. With all her objects she sets a high value on clear structures and a creative idea that is as simple as possible and consistent implemented in detail at the same time. The result is a modern and elegant handwriting with a very lively impact. This leads to products that are inspiring for their user and evoke emotions because they present a clear idea - an outstanding idea that works out well in every respect. Her work is identified by high demands on a clear formal language. Together with an excellent functionality this ensures an outstanding longevity of the design. Several of her prices as the Red Dot Award, IF Award, Good Design Award, Chicago, and the German Design Award confirm her design attitude.
