Mariza

Mariza is one of the Portuguese most renowned artists, recognized worldwide for its immense talent and originality. With six top-selling albums and a successfully international career, she has performed in the most famous stages around the world, such as the Olympia in Paris, the Frankfurt Opera House, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Le Carré in Amsterdam, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Sydney Opera House, the Carnegie Hall in New York and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles (in the latter case, her performance’s scenography was specially designed by Frank Gehry). Moreover, Mariza was one of the main characters on the movie Fados, by Spanish director Carlos Saura, exhibited in over 100 countries, and starred in the documentary Mariza and The History of Fado, produced for the BBC, besides starring other documentaries regarding this music genre. Among the many awards received by Mariza are the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards for the best artist, the International Award by the Fundação Amália Rodrigues, as well as the Best Artist 2014 award by Womex – the World Music Expo. She was decorated by the French government with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters), and in Portugal, she was awarded with Grau de Comendadora da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique [Degree of Commander of the Order of Infante D. Henrique]. Regarding the nomination of Fado as UNESCO World Heritage she played an important role as an ambassador, and for 10 years he has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In 2015 Mariza released her sixth album, Mundo, a trip to her world with a tour to international and Portuguese stages, including the large concert halls: MEO Arena in Lisbon and Coliseu do Porto (Oporto).
