Gemuce

Pompílio Hilário Gemuce was born in Quelimane, in 1963. He attended a program in ceramics at the Escola de Artes Visuais [School of Visual Arts] in Maputo and the earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kiev (Ukraine). In 1993 he obtained the degree of Master in Mural Painting by the Ukraine Academy of Fine Arts. In 2001, he completed the Masters’ in Design and Management of Cultural Projects at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle, in Paris (France). He was a professor at the National School of Visual Arts between 1993 and 2008. Currently, he is a professor of art at the Instituto Superior de Artes e Cultura (ISARC) [Higher Institut of Arts and Culture]. He was a founding member of the Associação Arte Feliz [Happy Art Association] and co-founder of Muvart (Contemporary Art Movement) between 2002 and 2008. He has exhibited his work since the early 90’s, both individually and collectively, having presented his work in countries such as Mozambique, South Africa, Senegal, Portugal, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, Finland and Brazil. He is the founder of the agency and art gallery “Arte de Gema”. His works belong to several public and private collections in Mozambique and abroad.
